As early as the end of the 19th century, Austrian botanists discovered liquid crystals, that is, liquid crystals, which means that a substance possesses the fluidity of a liquid and a certain arrangement characteristic similar to crystals. Under the action of an electric field, the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules will change, thereby affecting its optical properties. This phenomenon is called electro-optic effect. Utilizing the electro-optical effect of liquid crystals, British scientists manufactured the first liquid crystal display or LCD in the last century.
The world's first liquid crystal display device appeared in the early 1970s and was called TN-LCD (twisted nematic) liquid crystal display. Although it is a monochrome display, it has been extended to the fields of electronic watches, calculators, etc.
